This exhibition at The Lights is a culmination of the Make It Expressive Project which was made up of a series of creative workshops led by artist and educator Elizabeth Hammond. The workshops were held over 4 days working with students who have severe learning difficulties and staff from Icknield School in Andover and with residents with physical and learning difficulties and staff from Enham Trust in Andover.
The aim of the project was to explore and learn how we can communicate through being creative together. The participants explored this idea through paperclay, monoprinting, drawing with sticks, collaborative recycled sculpture building and kinetic drawing. The workshops were about enjoying the process of being creative, which inevitably leads to more lively and engaging outcomes, being less rigid in expectations of ourselves and our output. This is hugely beneficial as it builds confidence which is far reaching beyond the project. The participants learnt to let go of preconceptions and enjoy being creative together.
There is an all age ‘drop in and draw’ event on Monday 25th October between 11am-2pm as part of the exhibition programme.
The project was made possible with the support of Test Valley Arts Foundation who secured funding through Arts Council England.
