Lecture on Handel in Georgian England

03novAll DayLecture on Handel in Georgian England

Event Details

From the moment the 25-year-old Handel arrived in London in 1710, he was welcomed onto the English musical scene with open arms, and for the next 30 years drew a steady income by composing Italian operas.  When operatic taste waned in the 1730s, Handel turned his skills to the writing of oratorio, and works such as Messiah, Theodore and Solomon instantly appealed to a national sense of religious piety. The lecturer presents a lively account of Handel's musical adventures in London through keyboard music, song and digital images. Please contact the organisers for further information re timing and ticket availability.
